چکیده

A system to integrate microwave imaging with optical colonoscopy is presented. The overarching goal improve the prevention and early diagnosis of one main health economic burdens an increasingly aging population, i.e., colorectal cancer. For a colonoscopy, gold standard for cancer diagnosis, 22% polyps are not detected, risk after negative can be up 7.9%. To remedy this, able generate alarm when polyp detected designed, manufactured validated colon phantom composed tissue-mimicking oil-gelatin materials reproducing anatomy dielectric properties human polyp. acquisition was performed by miniaturized ring-shaped switched array 16 antennas attachable at tip conventional colonoscope. This has been conceived satisfy endoscopy size restrictions, patient safety intercompatibility current clinical practice. Modified Monofocusing method preceded previous frame average subtraction as calibration technique shows perfect detection 10-mm (100% sensitivity specificity) in eight analyzed trajectories. results demonstrate feasibility future preclinical trials.
